Mechanical Engineer

NanoInk is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work as a member of its product development engineering staff. This position will require the design of complex nanotechnology equipment as well the ability to interface effectively with other engineers, scientists, and members of business development and sales groups. The successful candidate will have experience in product development and commercialization.


Responsibilities:

  • Design nanotechnology capital equipment for sale to industrial and academic nanotechnology markets.
  • Design complex automated electromechanical devices from precision components that operate at the nanoscale level.
  • Design key components for nanotechnology equipment.
  • Research and recommend vendors for the engineering and manufacture of nanotechnology equipment, and monitor their subsequent progress.
  • Participate in writing machines’ functional specifications.
  • Provide innovative design of robust machines with areas of risk identified and addressed.
  • Design parts, assemblies and machines that can be made with conventional fabrication processes and that can be assembled according to instructions.

Requirements:

  • Necessary
    • Three or more years of intense precision machine design experience.
    • Extensive CAD solids machine design including stress, deflection and machine throughput calculations where applicable.
    • In-depth participation in the complete design cycle from concept through debugging of prototypes and problem solving at the customer site.
    • Problem analysis and troubleshooting of mechanisms.
    • In-depth knowledge of part fabrication processes.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced startup company, with emphasis on commercialization of research.
    • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering with machine design emphasis.
  • Desirable
    • Design of machines incorporating controlled nanometer scale movements.
    • Industrial experience with Autodesk Inventor.
    • FEA experience with application to industrial designs.
    • Use of machining equipment.
    • Design of basic electronics.
