NLP (Nanolithography Platform) Project Manager

NanoInk, Inc. is a Skokie, IL-based, private emerging growth company commercializing the Dip Pen Nanolithography® (DPN®) method of nano scale manufacturing. DPN is a patented process used to build nanometer scale structures and patterns by literally drawing materials directly onto a surface. DPN users can build at resolutions ranging from many micrometers down to 15 nanometers, using virtually any material. This combination of ultrahigh resolution and material flexibility makes for numerous commercial applications.


The DPN team is searching for a self-motivated leader to coordinate a substantial effort to introduce a new family of DPN products. Working with internal resources to design and create new tools as well as interfacing with academic and industry thought leaders, this individual will help shape the future nanotechnology workplace.


Responsibilities Include:

  1. Establish proficiency in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)/ DPN applications and instrumentation, and become a complete resource for supporting current and future customers, of existing and developing DPN products.

  2. Manage projects to develop new NLP tools:
    1. Lead development of specifications for project.
    2. Work with engineering and DPN resources to manage project schedules.
    3. Assist in development of market survey including customers and potential customers, as well as industry luminaries and consultants.
    4. Develop new applications and confirm preservation of existing capabilities as next generation tools are developed.
    5. Search for customized, specialized versions of the NLP tool for individual market segments.
    6. Assist in selection of vendors and monitor component projects from vendors for scheduled completion and performance. Place purchase orders and interface with NanoInk personnel who will be integrating hardware, software and applications.
    7. Participate in creation of marketing collaterals for advertising and training salespeople and distributors.
    8. Promote new product through technical presentations and articles.
    9. Assist in Beta customer selection.
    10. Lead software and hardware testing for new features and validation.

  3. Assist in developing NLP demonstrations for prospective customers, investors and partners:
    1. Develop repeatable and reliable techniques in order to clearly show the advantages of the NLP DPN system. This also includes speaking, demonstration, and interpersonal skills necessary for successful demonstrations.
    2. Produce video materials showing this capability for use at trade shows and as marketing media suitable for distribution to customers (for training) and potential customers (as sales materials).
    3. Use market analysis based on a fundamental understanding of customer research areas to craft targeted sales and marketing strategies.
    4. Match customer requirements with instrument capabilities and demonstrate NanoInk’s ability to solve customer applications. Assist customer in developing the applications with NanoInk tools and accessories and when possible publish results.
    5. Serve as technical liaison between customers and sales team.
    6. Attend trade shows and provide assistance in the booth.
    7. Assimilate the current literature, becoming familiar with all phases related to DPN and competitive or associated techniques.

  4. Develop educational product including:
    1. Prepare materials suitable for training new and existing customers, distributors, and NanoInk personnel.
    2. Coordinate use of educational consultants to build desirable curriculum of lesson plans providing a bundled nanotechnology teaching product.
    3. Select appropriate tools and supplies to be bundled in the offering.
    4. Develop training protocols for instructors.
    5. Search for likely funding sources and develop presentation materials for convincing arguments.
    6. Coordinate NanoInk senior management participation in the attempts to solicit funding.
    7. Interface with 501-3c non-profit organizations to facilitate the dispersion of grant awards.

Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in science or technology (advanced degree preferred).
  • Prior experience in the use of Atomic Force Microscopy or similar discipline.
  • Familiarity with development of academic programs and funding mechanisms.
  • Experience in a product support or demonstration role for high tech products.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills – teaching experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Desire to work in fast-moving, entrepreneurial climate.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to travel in the US and internationally.
